Design Process

The Gerotor Design Studio interface is laid out in an easy to use, intuitive format. There are four main forms:

  • Design of the gerotor profile

  • Design of the porting

  • Specification of the fluid and material properties (to enable performance calculations)

  • Inspection of the gerotor and porting prior to converting to CAD models or exporting to CNC machining files

There is also a form for the selection of charts to be plotted or exported to Microsoft Excel.

All of the forms can be resized and moved to suit the designers requirements. This is especially useful for the 'Design View' form, which can be resized to fill the desktop space available. The layout of the forms can be saved if required (Screen Layout).

Gerotors can be designed using millimetres or inch units. All corresponding outputs will be in the units specified on the main form.

The language used in GDS can be specified as English or German. All outputs (files generated, messages, etc) will use the selected language.

The main process for designing a gerotor and porting combination is to first design the gerotor, then the porting, calculate the performance and then select the graphical or text file output required. Porting and performance data do not have to be specified if only the gerotor profile is required.

Gerotors

The gerotor profile can be generated by one of two methods:

1) By specifying all the required parameters as shown in the complete 'Design Window' form

2) By only specifying the parameters as shown in the 'Design Assistant' sub-form. GDS will then make a suggestion for the remaining parameters to allow the design to be finalised. This method is especially useful if the design package is constrained (diameter, thickness, shaft size, etc) but the detail of the internal parameters is not defined.

Results of gerotor capacity, area ratio and max / min chamber volume are reported to assist the user in further design iteration steps.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Porting Design

The porting design for a Gerotor pump is vital to its operation and efficiency. Optimising the Inlet and Outlet port volumes, sealing arrangements and Porting Types can have major effects on overall pump performance. Gerotor Design Studio gives you control over every aspect of the port design - radii, start and end positions and number of ports can all be defined easily.

However, GDS can also help with this process by clicking 'Design Ports' button with blank fields - default values will be entered automatically.

Porting Type - Double-Sided Inlet or Outlet (for improved filling and exhaust) can be specified, as can Shadow Ports (small depth ports to create a balancing effect for the rotors in the housing).

A Metering Groove can be defined (if required) to assist in the transition from Low Pressure (Inlet) port to High Pressure (Outlet) port, where backflow of the high pressure fluid can create ripples and generate noise.

The rotors can be rotated within the 'Design View' form, to see the interaction between gerotor chambers and the port sealing lands.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Design Service

In addition to providing the GDS software, we can also provide a design service for both gerotors and porting. This is available to both licensed and non-licensed software holders (there will be a reduction in design costs for licensed users).
